Householders advised to insulate as higher energy bills loom

Eight fixed price energy tariffs are coming to an end on 31st August and many households across the country will now face a rise in their energy bills. Therefore the National Insulation Association (NIA) is urging householders to act now and insulate.

Neil Marshall, Chief Executive of the NIA commented: "Householders may choose to switch supplier to find a better deal but home insulation is the most cost effective way of saving money on domestic energy bills and the savings are made year after year! An astounding 58% of heat can be lost through un-insulated walls and roofs; but with the right measures put in place, householders could be making huge savings on their energy bills especially as the average dual fuel bill is estimated to be around £1,300 per year.

"The Energy Saving Trust advises that by simply installing Cavity Wall Insulation savings of up to £275* per year can be made and £240* per year from Loft Insulation. And with current installation costs, the payback period for Cavity Wall Insulation and Loft Insulation can be just 5 years or fewer. The savings are even greater for insulating sold wall properties, up to £455 per year. Draught-proofing windows and doors can save between £25 and £50* per year and when installed with other measures will greatly increase the comfort in a home."

The NIA advises householders that the best way to find out if their home requires insulation is to contact an NIA installer member for a free survey and advice on any help with paying for insulation measures.

Homeowners can also be safe in the knowledge that an NIA installer will have signed up to a strict Code of Professional Practice, meaning peace of mind comes as standard with an NIA approved member.

To find a local NIA member, householders and landlords should visit the NIA website or call 08451 636363.
