Release Date 19 February 2008
The Department for Work and Pensions has sent a letter to elderly people who are on Pension Credit urging them to apply for Government grants to help insulate their homes.
Insulation installers can now access a number of other grants which means that anyone aged 70 and over – whether they claim Pension Credit or not – could be eligible to have their home insulated for FREE.
In addition free insulation is available to those people who are on certain qualifying benefits too.
Neil Marshall, Chief Executive of the National Insulation Association (NIA) said: 'Following the recent well publicised increases in energy prices and the cold weather, it is more important than ever for people to have their home properly insulated to reduce energy wastage and keep the warmth in. Cavity wall and loft insulation can reduce the average energy bill by around £200 a year and further savings can be made through draught proofing and insulating tanks and pipes.
We urge everyone who is aged 70 and over and those people in receipt of benefits to contact one of our members to find out about the benefits of insulation, the grants available and how easy it is to insulate their home.
To find a local NIA approved installer in your area and take the first step towards a warmer home and cheaper energy bills visit www.nationalinsulationassociation.org.uk.
