Press Release:
NIA's advice is to Insulate now as 1 in 3 people in the UK are concerned about their heating bills

Release Date 05 September 2013

A recent survey* from BBC Radio 5 Live has revealed that 38% of people in the UK say they are concerned about paying for their heating bills this winter. The National Insulation Association (NIA) is therefore urging householders to insulate their homes in order to combat rising energy bills.

The survey also showed that 25% of people had put up with “unacceptable cold” homes in the past year as they struggle to pay bills. The NIA advises that home insulation is the single most effective method of saving money on domestic energy bills, with savings continuing year on year! With the average annual bill of a standard dual fuel tariff in the UK currently at £1,420** per year, householders need to make their homes as energy efficient as possible if they are to beat future price increases.

Neil Marshall, Chief Executive of the NIA commented: "Savings of up to £320*** per year can be made by simply installing cavity wall and loft insulation.

The savings are even greater for insulating solid walls and lofts up to £655*** per year and draught-proofing windows and doors can save a further £30* per year whilst greatly improving the warmth and comfort of the home. Furthermore, according to the Energy Saving Trust, installing cavity wall and loft insulation together costs on average £800; this means they can pay for themselves in less than 3 years!"

Householders are advised to contact an NIA member today who can advise them on the most appropriate and efficient method possible of insulating their home. Furthermore, NIA members adhere to a strict Code of Professional Practice so peace of mind comes as standard.

To find a local NIA member, householders should visit the NIA website or call 08451 636363.

* The survey was commissioned to mark BBC Radio 5 live's Energy Day.
