Press Release:
NIA supports Green Deal as insulation benefits stack up for householders

Release Date 28 January 2013

With today’s launch of the Government’s energy efficiency scheme, the Green Deal, the National Insulation Association (NIA) is calling for householders to take advantage of the scheme in ensuring they benefit from home insulation.

The Green Deal is the Governments new initiative to transform Britain’s existing non efficient housing stock. The scheme will give people the opportunity of upgrading their homes by paying for energy efficient home improvements with the savings on their energy bills with no upfront costs.

Neil Marshall, Chief Executive of the NIA, commented: "As the Green Deal goes live we are advising householders to take advantage of what this scheme offers. It’s a fact that home insulation is the single most effective method of saving money on their domestic energy bills, with savings continuing year on year! An astounding 60% of your homes heat could be escaping escape through uninsulated walls and roofs; the Energy Saving Trust report that by simply installing cavity wall and loft insulation savings of up to £310** per year can be made. The savings are even greater for insulating solid walls and lofts up to £635*** per year."

Speaking about the Green Deal Cashback scheme Marshall added: "From today, households can fund improvements through a Green Deal Plan and qualify for hundreds of pounds of cashback. The more improvements a householder makes, the bigger the cashback!"

Householders are advised to contact an NIA member who can advise them on the most appropriate and efficient method possible of insulating their home.

To find a local NIA member, householders should visit the NIA website www.nia-uk.org or call 08451 636363.

The NIA will be releasing its top ten insulation facts later this week to help inform consumers about the benefits if installing insulation

** Based on adding cavity wall insulation (CWI) (saving around £135 per year) and loft insulation (LI) of 270mm (saving around £175 per year). Savings based on an uninsulated three bed semi-detached gas heated house. If a property has 50mm of loft insulation then a combined saving for CWI and LI would then be around £185 per year.  Figures from the Energy Saving Trust.

*** Estimated savings if an uninsulated home installed Solid Wall Insulation (SWI) (saving of around £460) and Loft Insulation (LI) (saving around £175) to the recommended depth of 270mm - based on a three bed gas heated semi-detached house. If a property has 50mm of loft insulation then a combined saving for SWI and LI would then be around £510 per year.Figures from the Energy Saving Trust.

End.
