Insulation industry delegates converge at NIA's Annual Conference in Stratford upon Avon

Tuesday 4th December 2012 saw over 300 delegates meet in Stratford upon Avon at the National Insulation Association's (NIA) Annual Conference, which coincided with the Association’s 30th anniversary.

Hosted by the NIA's Chairman Tony Hardiman MBE and Chief Executive, Neil Marshall, the association introduced a wide range of high profile external speakers including the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (OFGEM), Local Government Association (LGA), Energy UK, Solid Wall Insulation Guarantee Agency (SWIGA), Which?, the Green Deal Finance Company, Willmott Dixon Energy Services, the Association for the Conservation of Energy and headline sponsor, specialist insulation supplier, GTi.

The conference was opened with a review of NIAs key achievements in 2012 followed by its plans to support members in 2013* with Neil Marshall setting out how the NIA would be helping its members in maximising the new opportunities under Green Deal and the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) including Solid Wall Insulation, Hard to Treat Cavities and the largely untapped commercial market for insulation.

The keynote address was delivered by the Chair of DECC's Energy Efficiency Deployment Office (EEDO), Peter Boyd, who spoke about how the world has to change to reach the carbon targets for the future and ways to more effectively engage consumers in energy efficiency. Within his role, Boyd provides strategic guidance whilst liaising with corporate bodies on energy efficiency and reiterated the importance of both the NIA and its members work in the battle against climate change.

The NIA’s Annual Conference also coincided with an announcement by DECC that £2.9 million was to be injected into a marketing campaign to encourage the uptake of the Green Deal. This announcement was welcomed by the NIA Chairman Tony Hardiman MBE.

Speaking of the day, Neil Marshall, Chief Executive of the NIA, commented: "This year's Annual Conference was key in ensuring that NIA members had the latest information and guidance on the new Green Deal and ECO for their preparations for the year ahead. The quality of our external speakers was extremely high and the information they were able to impart was extremely important and welcomed.
