Press Release:
How do you combat rising energy prices? Follow the advice and insulate!

Release Date 24 October 2012

With recent news that energy prices for millions of households will rise in November causing further hardship for many as the winter months set in and with the Big Energy Saving Week campaign this week. The National Insulation Association is renewing its call to householders to act now and insulate their homes to save their hard earned cash.

By following this advice and insulating now householders will not only notice a warmer more comfortable home, they will start saving money on their energy bills from day one.

Home insulation is the single most effective method of saving money on domestic energy bills By simply installing cavity and loft insulation, a saving of up to £310* per year can be made. The savings are even greater for insulating solid walls and lofts up to £635** per year.

Neil Marshall, Chief Executive of the NIA, said: "All the major energy suppliers are expected to increase their prices this winter. So it’s a great concern that many people could resort to not heating their homes properly for fear that they won’t be able to pay their bills. But there is a simple way they can bring these bills down without compromising their quality of life – and that’s by insulating their homes."

For peace of mind, householders are also advised to always use a qualified installer. By using an NIA member, householders are safe in the knowledge that they are not only employing a company which is bound by a strict Code of Professional Practice but also someone who can advise them on the range of support available and how to apply. What's more, NIA members will advise the householder on the most appropriate and efficient method possible of insulating their home.

*Based on adding cavity wall insulation (CWI) (saving around £135 per year) and loft insulation (LI) of 270mm (saving around £175 per year). Saving based on an uninsulated three bed semi detached gas heated house. If a property has 50mm of loft insulation then a combined saving for CWI and LI would then be around £185 per year.

** Estimated savings if an uninsulated home installed Solid Wall Insulation (SWI) (saving of around £460) and Loft Insulation (LI) (saving around £175) to the recommended depth of 270mm -based on a three bedroom gas heated semi detached house. If a property has 50mm of loft insulation then a combined saving for SWI and LI would then be around £510 per year.
